GREEN WASTE SITE OPENING/CURBSIDE PICKUP DATES:  The green waste site will open for the season on Thursday, April 13.  Hours are 3-7 p.m. Tuesday/Thursday; 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday; 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday.  The site is available for use for residential water customers of the City of Spirit Lake and the City of Orleans and the rules are on the City’s website.  Curbside yard waste pickup in the City of Spirit Lake will commence Monday, April 17 and be weekly on Mondays through the season.  Out of courtesy to the workers and more importantly for public safety reasons do not arrive prior to the opening times – it causes an unnecessary backup of traffic on the road and interferes with agricultural traffic, particularly in the spring and fall.  It seems to be a continual problem despite repeated requests and we would prefer not to involve law enforcement – the site opens at the time posted and not before and there is honestly nothing to gain by showing up early and sitting in the road.
