Spring Cleanup Days – guidelines for residents

The City of Spirit Lake has designated May 7-10 as Cleanup Days within the City when residential customers may dispose of items not normally picked up by the sanitation department.

Spring clean up days will coincide with resident’s normal day of garbage pickup.

TAGS will be required for all white goods, electronic items, car and truck tires (no rims), mattress and box springs, day beds and futons with mattresses. Tags may be purchased at City Hall. A tag will not be required on couches and chairs on clean-up days only. Carpet and pad will be picked up as long as rolls are cut to 4 foot lengths and tied with string, wire or duct tape. Lumber will also be picked up as long as all nails are pulled or bent over and the lumber is cut and bound tightly with wire or string with bundles no longer than 4 feet in length and 12 inches in diameter. This Clean-Up will not include construction, debris, paint, toxic or flammable chemicals, nor material from construction or commercial establishments.

Items for Clean up Days may be placed at curb no earlier than May 5 out of respect for neighbors and to avoid conflict with City Ordinances.
